Explicating Poems

According to "Marxist Criticism" society is made up of beliefs, values and ways of thinking influenced by economic and class structures. We see the opposite of this idea, that everyone is the same on the inside, clearly stated in the poem "Poverty's Reply to Royalty" by Lalitha Iyer. The lines "My Lord - I am ugly, yet my heart is sweet - I am dirty, yet my thoughts are neat" talk about how the homeless person thinks and feels just like anyone else would, even though their looks might make you think differently. The poet is stating that you shouldn't assume someone is completely different from you by their looks and that even when someone is at their lowest point they can still keep their their personality.  When Iyer writes "My bed is in shreds but I don't suffer asleep" she is talking about how whenever anyone goes to sleep it is always the same. Their is no divide between the rich and the poor when everyone is sleeping. In the last lines of the poem Iyer wrote "I invite you to my streets" Here Iyer is saying that the homeless person has a place to call home, the streets, and is being polite by inviting the higher classes into them just as if someone was inviting you into their house.

Is Poetry Important?

I think that poetry is a very important of literature. I don't know if some poems speak to everyone else as they do to me but I believe that poems stand alone from other pieces of writing. A good poem not only tells a story but delivers a strong feeling deep inside of the reader. Poems get information across to the reader in a different way than other literature. Poems are special and will always be around because they require the reader to make inferences and actually think about what is written under the words. Also everyone who evaluates a poem puts their personality into their evaluation. Poem's are important because they are a unique way of telling a story, getting a point across or exposing yourself.

Was Margret Thatcher a Good Leader?

In my opinion Margret Thatcher was a good leader. Margret Thatcher had many qualities that pushed her to become a good leader. One of these qualities was her unwavering determination. If Margret wanted to do something she did it. One great example of this is when she just started getting into politics. At the start of her journey she thought that she would run without any chance of being elected, just to shake up the party. When Thatcher actually got into politics and learned that she had a chance to become the leader of the country she put all of her time into her goal and backed down to no one. When Margret Thatcher finally became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom she kept her policies and made kept her promises. Another reason why Margret Thatcher was a good Prime Minister was her patriotism. When the Falklands were invaded by Argentina she did not hold back and sent troops to recapture the islands right away. Margret Thatcher did everything she could to make the United Kingdom a better place.

Why Was Jack Layton So Important to Canadian Politics

Jack Layton, the former leader of Canada's Official Opposition was a very important leader in Canadian politics and will be missed greatly. Jack passed away at 4:45am on August 22nd 2011. Layton had been battling a new form of cancer and had broken a hip earlier in the year. Jack Layton was such an important character in politics for many reasons, but one of his greatest traits was that he wanted a reason in politics and worked for the public good. Jack put all of his work into making Canada a better place. Layton was a good politian but also a good man, a man hard to come by. Jack had the utmost respect for his opponents and touched everyone he came in contact with with his warmth and optimism. Steven Harper said that "I know one thing: Jack gave his fight against cancer everything he had. Indeed, Jack never backed down from any fight." Jack one such an important politician because he was determined but also cool headed and worked his whole life to make Canada a better place. One of Layton's greatest achievements is in 2011. Jack had a fractured hip, needing a cane, and was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Even with these set backs he lived up to the nickname "Energizer Bunny" for his energetic personality. Jack Layton ended up winning 103 seats for the New Democratic Party in his fourth election in seven years. He shattered the old parties record and became the Official Opposition in the process. Jack Layton will be remembered with large smiles for his sunny personality, determination and loyalty to Canada.
